American Interactive Brokers Restricts Accounts for Russian Citizens
American company Interactive Brokers, popular among Russians, has started closing their accounts with low balances or activity. In general, the opportunities for Russian citizens to conduct financial operations outside the country are decreasing.
In their statement to users, the broker informed about the need to close or transfer accounts due to «recent analysis, low asset value, and the need for additional checks.»
The company also mentioned that it has restricted trading options for Russian accounts, allowing only reduction or closure of positions, but not allowing them to increase or create new positions.
It is worth noting that many Russians turned to Interactive Brokers after the start of the full-scale war of Russia against Ukraine. The company has stopped the possibility of replenishing accounts in rubles and prohibited Russians from purchasing securities of European companies.
