Large-scale cigarette smuggling production: law enforcement operation in Kyiv region

In Pereyaslav, located in the Borispil district, law enforcement officers found a tobacco factory operating in a building owned by a 54-year-old local resident.

The underground cigarette production was organized on the territory of his own property.

During the search in the garage, law enforcement officers found approximately 120 kilograms of counterfeit tobacco of elite varieties, over 100 boxes of cigarette paper, 10 mechanical devices for filling tubes, and 60 boxes of cigarette packs.

According to preliminary estimates, the seized items could be used to produce over five thousand packs of cigarettes.

Investigators have initiated a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 204 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — «Illegal production and sale of excisable goods».

This article provides for a fine ranging from 85,000 to 170,000 hryvnias with confiscation and destruction of counterfeit goods.
