Street Lighting in Kharkiv Region Cities Turned Off Due to Electricity Shortage

Local authorities in major cities of the Kharkiv region, such as Chuguev and Balakliia, have announced that street lighting is being turned off due to a lack of electricity.

Since April 8, the Chuguev city military administration has made the decision to switch off the street lights in the evening, citing a shortage of electrical energy caused by the destruction of power infrastructure due to Russian shelling.

In Balakliia, street lighting has also been temporarily switched off until the energy situation in the region stabilizes. Previously, the Kolomak and Valki communes had already refused street lighting.

Recent weeks have seen intensive targeting of energy infrastructure objects in Kharkiv and the Kharkiv region by Russian forces. To conserve electricity, power outage schedules have been introduced in Kharkiv.
