Legendary former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas shared his thoughts on Toni Kroos’s decision to retire:

«Toni has decided to end his career, and I wish him all the best. He arrived at Real Madrid very modestly, almost unnoticed, with little knowledge of football, but he proved his importance to the club. Every player will reach a moment when they decide it’s time to end their career. Toni Kroos did it this summer. I wish him all the best and am grateful for everything he has done for Real Madrid.

Honestly, I am a bit surprised, as I believe Kroos can still play at a high level. Every time you watch him play, you see how he performs, and you feel joy seeing a player with such authority and experience continue to play.

This situation reminds me of Luka Modric’s story. But, in my opinion, Toni still had a lot of energy to play. The final decision was well thought out, and I believe he made it together with his family. That’s how it should be.

Thank him for everything he has achieved in football, and of course, my condolences to the world of football. But, if he decided to go, then he probably believes it is the right decision.»
