In the area of Chasovyi Yar in eastern Ukraine, junior lieutenant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Petrakovskiy has gone missing, who led a mechanized platoon and worked in the media for 10 years, according to the publication «Ukrainski Novyny». The disappearance of Oleksandr Petrakovskiy was officially announced on May 30, 2024, due to special circumstances. However, his friend Denis Ivanesko revealed on the social media platform Facebook that the defender was killed along with other soldiers due to enemy mortar shelling in a bunker.
Remembered as a Hero
«In the last battle, he led the group. We quickly took position. But, unfortunately, it didn’t last long… A mine hit the bunker. No one came out of it alive. We tried to find the wounded with the help of a drone. Our military personnel risked approaching the site twice, but without success. The position is now under enemy control,» Ivanesko said.
A True Patriot
While being a journalist, Petrakovskiy had the legal opportunity not to go to war, but he decided to defend his city of Irpin in Kiev region from the first days of Russian aggression. Initially, he joined the territorial defense, and then went from senior sergeant to junior lieutenant of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
After the liberation of the Kyiv region, he received the award «For Merit to the City of Irpin», and later was awarded the Order of Valor III degree from the President.
An Unforgettable Friend
«He always supported the entire editorial staff — always ready to help, advise, organize. And he was an unparalleled master of shashlik at corporate events. We last spoke on Easter. There were a lot of plans — night fishing, cooking fish, and renovating an old car… Sanya, thank you for being with us,» Denis Ivanesko wrote.
