In the new video project «Ukrainian Witness»

Andriy Serhiyenko goes by the call sign «2.0». During the liberation of Andriivka in September 2023, he destroyed 24 occupiers and then lost both legs due to a serious injury. Born in Chernihiv region, he studied at a railway school and went to the front after the occupation, when the Russians were in his village for about 40 days. «They put my peers at gunpoint, shot at their feet. Some civilians were tied to the tank barrel and left overnight. I didn’t like all of this. The machine gun is pointed at you and you think: will there be a shot or not?» — shared the man.

Recalling the occupation

«2.0» mentioned that the Russians sometimes shot at each other. «Some of them didn’t really want to fight. They were mobilized. They drank, sat in positions, and sometimes even shot each other with ‘special’ bullets — they thought our military were somewhere nearby.» Andriy received his injury near Terniv in Donetsk region. «We were sitting in trenches in our positions, and then a 120mm artillery shell landed (mine caliber — ed.). I felt a burning sensation in my legs. I quickly realized that there would be partial amputation, and accepted that I would be without legs. I also had a hole in my back. I administered first aid to myself and reported on the radio that I was the ‘three hundredth’. Then I was evacuated,» recalled the military.

Awards and Petition

A petition was created on the official website of the President of Ukraine to award Andriy with the title of Hero of Ukraine. The fighter positively accepts this. «Why not? For me, this is the highest award. If the command has decided that I deserve it, then so be it,» he said. Andriy already has a number of awards: The insignia of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine «Golden Cross», The honorary breastplate of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine «Cross of the Brave», The breastplate of the Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine «For Service and Valor III degree».
