Germany Implements Strengthened Border Control Ahead of Euro-2024
On the eve of the Euro-2024 football festival, Germany is demonstrating determination to ensure security by implementing strengthened border control. Over the past week, German border guards have detected over a thousand attempts of unauthorized border crossing and issued numerous arrest warrants, confirming the effectiveness of the new measures.
Strict Control Measures in Place
According to the Bild publication, from June 7 to June 13, entry of nearly a thousand individuals was prevented, indicating strict control on the way to Euro-2024. Minister of the Interior Nancy Fezer emphasized that the main goal is to prevent crime and ensure the safety of tournament participants and guests.
Largest Operation in Germany’s History
Approximately 22,000 federal police officers are involved daily in these measures, making this operation the largest in the country’s history. Enhanced control has affected borders with Denmark, France, the Benelux countries, as well as airports and ports where travelers from the Schengen area are checked.
Creating a Safe Environment
These measures, which will continue until July 19, are part of Germany’s comprehensive strategy aimed at creating a safe environment for hosting one of Europe’s most popular sporting events.
