Elon Musk: Tesla’s Humanoid Robots Could Make Company Worth over $22.75 Trillion

According to FactSet data, the total value of the S&P 500 index currently stands at $45.5 trillion. Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated on Thursday that his company’s humanoid robots Optimus could potentially make the car manufacturer worth more than half of this amount in the future.

Musk, who described himself as «pathologically optimistic» at the 2024 annual shareholder meeting in Austin, Texas, said that Tesla is not just entering a «new phase» in its life, but is preparing to write an entirely «new book». Optimus seems to be one of the main characters.

Tesla first revealed its plans for humanoid robots in 2021 at AI Day, showcasing a dancer in a uniform, resembling a slender, androgynous robot.

In January, Tesla demonstrated Optimus robots ironing clothes in a demo video, which was immediately criticized by robotics engineers for deception. The robots were not autonomous, but were controlled by people using remotes.

At the shareholder meeting on Thursday, Musk did not disclose what Optimus can actually do today. He suggested that one day the robots will work like R2-D2 and C-3PO in «Star Wars». They will be able to cook or clean, work in factories, or even teach your children, Musk expressed.
