In the evening of April 13, massive fires occurred at two substations in the Bolhrad district of the Odessa region. The investigation classified these incidents as terrorist acts.
According to sources in law enforcement agencies, the suspect was arrested a few days later. He turned out to be a local resident with a passport from the Republic of Moldova.
Preliminary data suggests that he was promised $2000 for setting the fires. The man had accomplices who are currently on the run. Information about the mastermind behind the terrorist act has not been disclosed yet, but it is likely that he has connections to the aggressor country’s special services.
The fires occurred at the 110/35/10 kV «Bolhrad» and 35/10 kV «Kubey» substations. The first provides electricity to six settlements with 11 thousand subscribers, while the second serves two settlements with three thousand subscribers. The fires broke out at 21:50 and 22:45 respectively. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries, but the burned transformers left the area without electricity.
The investigation revealed that the saboteurs used a Ford Focus with Lithuanian license plates and bottles of flammable mixture.
The incidents are classified under Part 2 of Article 113 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (sabotage during wartime). The suspect faces punishment in the form of life imprisonment.
