The Security Service of Ukraine uncovers espionage at defense plant
The Security Service of Ukraine has exposed espionage at a defense plant in Mykolaiv. An engineer-designer at a strategic enterprise of Ukroboronprom was leaking secret developments in military shipbuilding to Russian intelligence.
This employee was taking photographs of confidential technical documents to pass them on to enemy intelligence services. He was working for two «clients»: one of them is a Russian, an employee of a Russian machine-building plant, and the other is a citizen of Iran, previously convicted of espionage.
The engineer from Mykolaiv used anonymous chats on messengers to communicate with the «clients,» who were unaware of each other. Foreign intelligence services wanted to obtain information about Ukrainian developments to use them for their military projects.
The SBU promptly uncovered this activity and detained the engineer suspected of treason. During the search, a mobile phone used for contacts with representatives of enemy intelligence services was found on him. He is now in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.
