The Main Topics of the Upcoming NATO Summit
The main topics of the upcoming NATO summit in Washington will be the support for Ukraine, promoting its membership in the Alliance, and guaranteeing security. This was stated by the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, at a press conference on July 5, reported by Yle.
He emphasized that among NATO allies there are differences regarding support for Ukraine, but he hopes for reaching a compromise.
When asked about the possibility of membership in the Alliance for a country in a state of war, Stubb said: «Our message to Russia must be clear — Ukraine will in the future become a member of NATO and the EU.»
The summit of the North Atlantic Alliance will take place in Washington from 9 to 11 July, with official events starting on July 10.
In April, the US House of Representatives approved aid to Ukraine, later the Senate voted for the assistance, and President Joseph Biden signed a law allocating $60.8 billion for Ukraine.
On June 13, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, together with the US President, signed a ten-year security agreement.
