In the Dnipropetrovsk region, locals release 1000 bats into the wild

At the territory of the cheese factory «Zeleniy Gay» in the Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine, a special event took place to protect bats. Around 1000 bats were released into the wild with the support of local residents. Bats in Ukraine are listed in the Red Book, and the event aimed to draw attention to their conservation.

Demonstrating the importance of bat conservation

Anton Vlashchenko, a doctor of biological sciences and the head of the Ukrainian Bat Rehabilitation Center, showcased a rescued bat to the attendees. He explained how bats often seek shelter in human habitats during winter and emphasized the importance of returning them to their natural habitat.

Educating the community about bats

Participants had the opportunity to observe bats up close, learn more about their role in the ecosystem, and assist in preparing the animals for release. Volunteers also fed the bats to support their population. It is essential to dispel myths about bats attacking people or sucking blood, as they are non-aggressive creatures. However, caution is advised when coming into contact with bats due to potential diseases, including rabies.

Increasing awareness of conservation

Around 120 people, including children, attended the event and gained a better understanding of the need to conserve ecosystems and biodiversity. Such actions are crucial in fostering a sense of responsibility towards protecting wildlife and preserving nature.
