Saudi Arabia to Skip Summit Due to Absence of Russian Delegation

According to the German news agency dpa, citing diplomatic sources in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia has decided not to participate in the summit due to the absence of a delegation from Russia.

Official comments from the Saudi authorities are not yet available.

According to the Pakistani publication The Express Tribune, the country’s authorities are likely to skip the summit in order to maintain «neutrality.»

Sources of the publication claim that since Russia was not invited to the summit, it may turn out to be futile. However, a final decision has not yet been made.

Earlier, China and Brazil officially stated that they do not intend to participate in the summit due to the absence of Russia.

The press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, stated on May 2 that the Kremlin does not have high expectations for holding the summit in Switzerland without Russia’s participation.
