Sea Baby drones revolutionize warfare

Sea Baby sea drones now cover twice the distance than between Odessa and Sevastopol, delivering explosives weighing over 800 kilograms.

In less than a year and a half of their existence, Sea Baby drones have undergone several upgrades. They have been taught to cover greater distances and made more deadly. This was reported on Friday, March 1, by Business Insider, citing the general of the Security Service of Ukraine, Ivan Lukashevich, whose team is working on the development of UAVs.

According to him, by 2024, the sea drones will have completely different characteristics.

«Compared to the ones we first tested in October 2022 to attack Russian military ships in Sevastopol Bay. We identified the shortcomings of the initial projects, but the manufacturer could not anticipate such things, as there was no expertise for such high-tech drones at that time,» Lukashevich said.

The first modification of the drones was enlarging the size of the warhead. According to preliminary data, drones can deliver explosives weighing over 800 kilograms.

The next noticeable improvement was the «enhanced seamanship,» which provided the ability to navigate waves that are up to one and a half meters high.

The third improvement was that Sea Baby drones could cover twice the distance than between Odessa and Sevastopol. In particular, in a straight line across the Black Sea, the distance between the two cities is approximately 300 kilometers. And the drones’ operational radius now exceeds 900 kilometers, making many more Russian targets accessible.

«Ukraine also wanted to make them reusable so that they were both cheaper and more efficient,» Lukashevich said.

It is also noted that, in addition to the physical modernization of their Sea Baby drones, the Security Service of Ukraine also uses several locations for their production and testing. Constant movements, even special operations, are carried out at various command posts.
