A 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck South Korea on Wednesday, becoming the strongest one this year. The report comes from the Yonhap agency, citing the Korean Meteorological Administration (KMA).

Details of the Earthquake

The earthquake occurred about four kilometers from North Jeolla County, located 204 kilometers from Seoul, at 08:26 local time at a depth of eight kilometers. Fifteen aftershocks were recorded afterwards, with the strongest one measuring at 3.1 magnitude and happening at 13:55.

Impact and Response

The earthquake was felt in various parts of the country, including Seoul, Chungcheong Province, and the southeastern regions. Firefighters and officials from the Ministry of the Interior registered 213 cases related to the earthquake, but there have been no reports of damages or casualties. It is forecasted that seismic tremors will continue for at least a week, and aftershocks could last for several months.
