Three More Underground Schools to Be Built in Kharkiv

Before the start of the new school year in Kharkiv, Mayor Igor Terekhov announced plans to build three additional underground schools to ensure a safe learning environment in the midst of war.

The new underground educational institutions will be located in Novobavarsky, Kholodnogorsky, and Shevchenkivsky districts, with the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration also working on a school funded by a state subsidy. Future plans include similar constructions in all areas of the city.

The first underground school, already completed in the Industrial district, cost 58.8 million hryvnias and features 20 classrooms for 900 students in two shifts. Currently utilizing equipment from temporarily closed schools, the institution will soon receive advanced technology from USAID, including computers and interactive whiteboards.

Despite the majority of Kharkiv schoolchildren currently studying online, around 2,000 students are expected to attend the offline metro school this year. The new facilities aim to provide a safe and effective learning environment for all students during these challenging times.
