New Law on Mobilization in Ukraine
Starting from May 18, a new law on mobilization will come into effect in Ukraine. Within 60 days, men aged 18 to 60 are required to update their military registration data.
This information is stated in the material by RBC-Ukraine «Threats from Russia and mobilization in a new way. What awaits Ukraine this summer on the front line and in the rear.»
There are three ways to update the data, explained Fedir Venislavskyi, a member of the Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence of the Verkhovna Rada. The first way is through the Territorial Defense Centers and Military Commissariats. The second is to register an electronic account and update the data remotely through it. The third is to use the services of the Administrative Service Centers.
One of the issues that the government needs to work on is the functioning of the electronic account. The parliament hopes that it will be launched before the law comes into effect. However, the summons will be sent only in paper form, not through the electronic account as before.
«The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine needs to develop a number of subordinate regulatory acts. Representatives of the Ministry of Defense reported that most of these documents are almost ready — regarding conscription, military transport duty, remote updating of personal data,» Venislavskyi said.
The law also revises the grounds for exemption from mobilization, so after these 60 days, some individuals may lose this right. Changes will also affect male students in higher educational institutions who are pursuing a second degree. After the end of the academic year, they will lose the right to exemption, Venislavskyi noted.
