The Importance of a Long-Term Trade Agreement with the EU
The head of the European office of the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club Association, Nazar Bobytskyi, emphasized the significance of reaching a long-term trade agreement with the European Union within the framework of the Association Agreement. According to a statement by the UACA on Facebook, Bobytskyi expressed concerns about potential obstacles posed by influential agrarian lobby and far-right movements within the EU.
Despite the recent elections favoring the European People’s Party, Bobytskyi warned that challenges could arise that might impact Ukrainian agricultural exports. He highlighted the EU’s potential support for the industry but also pointed out the risks posed by the introduction of an «emergency brake» on tariffs if export volumes exceed certain limits.
As a result, the UACA advocates for the negotiation of a comprehensive bilateral trade agreement to secure long-term benefits for the Ukrainian economy. By leveraging the opportunities provided by the Association Agreement, both Ukraine and the EU could strengthen their trade relations and promote sustainable growth.
